Characters from Spongebob and Their Animal Twins

Spongebob Squarepants has aired over 250 episodes and has been around for nearly 20 years, making it the fifth-longest-running American animated series ever. Since the show's debut on Nickelodeon, people all around the world have been obsessed with Spongebob and his diverse ensemble of Bikini Bottom inhabitants.

SpongeBob fans continue to cite ceaselessly the numerous heartfelt narratives, incredibly relatable moments, and famous characters that have been introduced into this animated series.

Obviously, everyone has a subjective preference. Nonetheless, I will strive to construct this list as objectively as possible. Buckle up, foolish goobers.

The series started in July 1999 and is set in Bikini Bottom, a small hamlet in the Pacific Ocean.

Now we know that water creatures do not have pets, work in fast food restaurants, or play volleyball on the "beach." However, Spongebob did open our eyes to ocean life and has provided us with years of entertainment.

Here are the key characters and their real-world counterparts, just for fun.

Let's start with Spongebob, as is proper:

Okay, we'll accept that in many cases the characters don't resemble the animals they're based on, but let's agree that both versions are quite adorable!

What Age Is SpongeBob?

One of today's most watched television shows is SpongeBob SquarePants, and SpongeBob has cemented his place alongside other iconic cartoon characters like Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, and Mickey Mouse.

Since the show's introduction in the late 1990s, devoted viewers have encouraged the characters' aspirations, and it still occupies a significant space in popular culture.

Few cartoon characters have been so well-liked by viewers throughout several decades.

According to creator Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob is meant to remain ageless in order to appeal to a larger audience.

Theoretically, according to Hillenburg, SpongeBob is 50 years old in "sponge years," but in actuality, he is probably considerably younger.

Although there isn't a direct conversion from human years to sponge years, SpongeBob's two appearances with a driver's license give us a good idea of how old he is in human years.

In the episodes "Sleepy Time" and "No Free Rides," July 14th, 1986, is referred to as SpongeBob's birthday.

SpongeBob was only about 13 years old in human years when SpongeBob Squarepants made its national television debut.

Even though SpongeBob may seem too young to own a home and live independently, there is no proof that he developed at the same rate as humans.

In spite of the fact that SpongeBob is not traditionally associated with maturity, there are hints throughout the show that he is an adult sponge.

In the episode "Grandma's Kisses" from the second season, SpongeBob's friends make fun of his grandmother for treating him like a young child.

Remember, you can still kiss your grandmother and be a grownup, SpongeBob's grandmother reminds him after he struggles to act more maturely.

The entire episode is devoted to the challenges that young people may face as they age from childhood to maturity.

The SpongeBob movie Kamp Koral, which takes place ten years before the show, may be referenced by some fans.

Although SpongeBob and Patrick are said to be 10 years old in the television series, this movie is not regarded as canon.

Most fans believe SpongeBob is between the ages of 18 and early 20s.

When did SpongeBob SquarePants' initial television episode air?

SpongeBob SquarePants debuted on May 1, 1999, and has been running continuously since July 17, 1999.

Numerous awards, such as ASCAP Awards and American and British Emmy Awards, have been given to this animation.

For the entertainment of viewers everywhere, SpongeBob SquarePants is now subtitled and dubbed in more than 60 languages.

Stephen Hillenburg had no idea he was creating an international success when he came up with the SpongeBob cast.

Before he was made a director, Hillenburg worked as a marine biologist and graduated from Humboldt State University with a bachelor's degree in natural resource planning and interpretation.

His first position was teaching marine biology at the Ocean Institute, now known as the Orange County Marine Institute.

Hillenburg would use his artistic skills to write and draw a variety of aquatic creatures to captivate his students.

The denizens of Bikini Bottom would eventually be these teaching aids.

In order to pursue a degree in Experimental Animation, Hillenburg enrolled in the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia in 1987. In 1992, he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts.

Rocko's Modern Life, Hillenburg's first successful television series, would go into production a year later.

Given how well-liked the show is, it wouldn't be long before SpongeBob SquarePants had his own movie, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

Hillenburg would create the script, oversee production, and serve as director.

Eleven years later, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was released.

This movie was written and executive produced by Stephen Hillenburg.

After battling ASL, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Stephen Hillenburg passed away in 2018.

Till his passing, Hillenburg was a shining example of hope, friendship, and the importance of imagination.

Who Is the Voice Actor for SpongeBob?

SpongeBob SquarePants' voice actor, Tom Kenny, has also played a variety of other animated and video game characters.

Although Kenny's most well-known character is SpongeBob, he has also been in a number of significant television programs and computer games from the 1990s and the early 2000s.

Even though Tom Kenny worked with the late Stephen Hillenburg on SpongeBob SquarePants, he also provided the voices of Heffer and Chuck Chameleon from Rocko's Modern Life.

Kenny was the voice of the Narrator in The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, and Dexter's Laboratory, and anyone who grew up around him and watched Cartoon Network would have recognized his voice.

Due to his wide vocal range, Tom Kenny has a long list of roles on many of the shows in which he has appeared.

He occasionally enjoys appearing in other series that he likes, such as when he voiced the mother of Courage the Cowardly Dog, when he's not performing small roles on his major television shows.

But Kenny wasn't just on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.

Even early Disney animated programs based on their movies, including Hercules and Lilo & Stitch: The Series, featured his voice as a character.

Tom Kenny has played some of the most beloved characters in the history of video games, however his work on television may have garnered him more notoriety.

The most well-known video game character Kenny has voiced is Spyro the Dragon.

Kenny started portraying Spyro in 1999, when he appeared in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, making him the character's voice actor for the same duration as SpongeBob.

This outstanding voice actor also played Rin and Wantz in the Final Fantasy X-2 English dub.

What age is Patrick Star?

The age on Patrick Star's driver's license is 37.

His actual birthday is August 17, 1984, which places him around 15 years old at the time of SpongeBob SquarePants' 1999 release.

Stephen Hillenburg invented Patrick while he was a student at the Orange County Marine Institute.

The starfish's original design, which was far more realistic, was created with young children in mind.

Instead of two eyes at the top of his very human-like head, Patrick had an eyehole at the end of each arm and a mouth hole in the centre of his body.

Hillenburg thought that Patrick's appearance would correspond to the "dumb and slow" character traits of real starfish when creating the amusing children's program.

Hillenburg also intended to show how active and aggressive starfish may be if they so desire.

In order to use the characters' flaws to make amusing situations, Hillenburg wanted to create characters who had both strengths and weaknesses.

To help the viewer comprehend how SpongeBob and Patrick were finding themselves into the absurd situations portrayed on the program, Hillenburg wanted the audience to understand that Patrick is "probably the dumbest guy in town."

The majority of SpongeBob's desire to comply with Patrick's requests is to blame for the two best friends' frequent misadventures.

Patrick and SpongeBob have been friends since they were young children, as shown in the episode The Secret Box.

The details of Patrick's removal from his parents' house are described in the episode Home Sweet Pineapple.

Up until he had enough money to buy it outright, he rented his stone house.

Only Patrick's skewed satellite antenna distinguishes his residence from that of his parents.

How are Patrick and Gary related?

Yes, there is a canonical relationship between Patrick Star and Gary, SpongeBob SquarePants' pet snail.

In the fourth season episode "Rule of Dumb," Patrick learns that King Amoeba is his great-great-grandfather.

Patrick is excited to assume his new position as king of the sea, but he soon becomes so despotic that not even his best friend can manage him.

SpongeBob decides to leave Patrick after developing apprehension toward him.

Without his best buddy by his side, Patrick has lost his desire to rule.

Even if he could have everything else he desires, Patrick's greatest desire is to be accompanied by his boyhood best friend.

Patrick decides to abdicate and returns the crown to the Royal Ministry, which is now searching for King Amoeba's next descendant.

The Royal Ministry reviews the royal family tree in order to determine the new heir to the throne.

The family tree reveals that King Amoeba wedded the fish Queen Mildew.

The royal couple has a daughter named Princess Tulsa who, like her mother, is a fish.

Princess Tulsa subsequently married another fish, and their offspring, Maw Tucket, is a starfish.

Maw Tucket wed a fish named Billy Bob, and the couple had two offspring.

Their kid Sluggo was a snail, while their son Herb, like his mother, was a starfish.

Herb and Margie Star are Patrick's parents, whereas Sluggo and an unknown woman are Gary's parents.

This makes Patrick and Gary first cousins and raises a number of concerns regarding how biology operates in Bikini Bottom.

Gary and Patrick have a shared interest in SpongeBob despite their contrasting personalities.
